What do we pay attention to?

Many may know this psychological test, but it's finally online. Watch first, then read on.

People have an enormous ability to observe selectively. Of everything we watch we can select the most important incredibly fast: we put known patterns in boxes and only look for the change. It gets worse if we’re asked to (or for some other reason) pay more attention. It allows us to survive in our own and other complex environments. But it also means that there are things which are these which we rule out from childhood. Higher abstractions such as ‘tv’ also has such a box in our heads. That the whole idea of ‘programmed video’ might disappear completely is hard to imagine precisely because of that. To see into the future, we have to be able to let go of what we’ve previously learned in our lives. And that it’s not always that simple is demonstrated in this movie.
