IPv6 is the successor of IPv4, the internet protocol that’s currently used the moment. IPv6 was developed to solve the problems with IPv4. Especially the looming deficit of IPv4 addresses is a problem: the expectation is that in 2010 there will be no more IPv4-addresses available.
The amount of internet connections in Africa is growing incredibly rapidly, and it’s not surprising that a continent with a fast-growing internet community chooses for the new protocol, that also offers enough addresses in the coming years to support an exponential growth. The new African connections are registered by AfriNIC for networks in Africa and the Indian Ocean.
